HumanLight – on December 23rd

The HumanLight holiday presents an alternative reason to celebrate in the December holiday season!

Celebrate and express positive humanist ideals and values: Reason, Compassion, Hope.

HumanLight illuminates a positive, secular vision.

Celebrate and promote a positive vision of a better future — a future in which all people can identify with each other and try to behave with high moral standards — a future which people can build by working together for a happy, just and peaceful world, drawing on the best of our human nature and capacities. Celebrate human accomplishments and achievements that help build that future!

In many cultures, late December is a season of good cheer and a time for festive gatherings of friends and families. As part of this holiday season, HumanLight is a festive holiday that is humanity-based and entirely secular — not based on any supernatural, religious or theistic beliefs.  It is not derived from any other holiday and is not an attempt to change or “secularize” any existing religious holiday.

By celebrating and expressing positive human values, such as reason, compassion and hope, the HumanLight holiday has a vibrant and authentic meaning for the secular, non-theistic, freethought and humanist communities.

All groups and individuals who believe in its meaning and purpose are encouraged to celebrate HumanLight with family and friends on or around December 23rd — in a public group event, privately at home, or even a virtual online setting!

Since 2001, families and friends have been celebrating the holiday at home, and many local groups have been holding public holiday celebrations. And starting in 2020, (due to the Covid-19 pandemic), the first virtual online HumanLight celebrations were held, sponsored by several local and national groups! It’s becoming an annual tradition, as a supplement to in-person events held by local groups. These virtual events are great for those who don’t have any home gatherings or group events nearby, or who can’t attend in person for whatever reasons.
